#3 Wolverines beat #2 Falcons 14-0 in defensive battle in "Game Of The Week"

by Michael Torres

If you were looking for a lot of points or a shootout Saturday night at the Northeast Georgia Wolverines vs Georgia Falcons game then you came to the wrong game. What you did see is 2 dam good defenses battling it out all the way to the end. The Georgia Falcons who were battling through QB issues leading up to this game struggled on offense all 4 quarters. While the high powered Wolverine offense who were averaging over 40 points per game was shutdown for most of the game by one of the best defenses in the EAFL, the Georgia Falcons. It was like watching 2 heavy weight boxers trying to land that one big punch but just couldn't get through the opponents defense. Then it finally happened, the Wolverine struck early in the 3rd quarter with a 46 yard TD pass from QB #6 Keenan Wise to WR #0 Jeffery Mack to go up 6-0.  Late in the 4th quarter it looked like the Wolverines would run out the clock with almost 2 minutes left in the game, but on 2nd down the Wolverine RB #13 Jonathan Davis Jr. fumbled the ball and a Falcon DT #50 Ryan Edwards picked it up and took it all the way down to the 31 yard-line before being tackled. The Falcons had the shot they needed but would they capitalize on the Wolverine mistake? On 2nd down with about 1:30 left in the game QB #5 Darius Partidge tried to connect with WR #14 Roman McDowell in the middle of the field but was picked off by Linebacker #12 Labryson Dixon who returned it for an 80 yard TD to seal the game for the Wolverines 14-0. No doubt that these 2 teams will meet later this season for another good game, and better yet in the playoff where it most definitely will be a classic.
