Both #2 Seeds survive in overtime against #7 seeds

by Michael Torres

It was an exciting 1st round of playoffs in the EAFL, with 2 games going into overtime. Both #2 vs #7 matchups from the Elite North and the Elite south went into overtime with the #2 teams pulling out the wins.

#2 Lakeland Jokers vs the #7 Broward County Outlaws (Elite South)

This game had it all big hits, big plays, great defense, and 2 elusive QB’s making things happen, but at the end of the day QB #19 Tavaris Carr for the Joker made the biggest play of all. In overtime on 3rd down from the 5-yard line while rolling out to the left he escaped a defender and hit his TE in the endzone to win the game. The Bulldogs had their chances to seal the victory but let to many opportunities slip through their hands.

#2 Georgia Falcons vs #7 Atlanta Tigers (Elite North)

These 2 teams met in the regular season with the Falcons winning at home 27-14 and at the Tigers home 32-30, but this was the playoffs, and the Tigers were ready for payback. In a Defensive battle with big plays on both sides the game would be settled in overtime. The Tigers would have their first shot at winning the game in overtime, but the Falcons defense would stand up and deny the Tiger. The Falcons would get their chance to win the game and they made the most of it as they scored to win 20-14 against a very good Tiger team.

Both teams move on to the Elite 8 and need to regroup after a hard-fought game that surely took a lot out of all the players involved. Will either of these teams have enough in the tank to win another tough game in the EAFL Playoffs come June 4th? We will find out very soon…
