The road to the 2026 Elite American Football League playoffs feels less like a postseason bracket and more like a powder keg waiting to explode.

At the center of the conversation are two franchises that already authored one of the league’s defining moments: the Cherokee County Bruins and the Tarpon Springs Pirates.

A year ago, the Pirates erased a 21-7 halftime deficit to stun the Bruins 27-21 in the 2025 EAFL Championship Game, delivering one of the greatest comebacks in league history.  Now, the possibility of a 2026 rematch hangs over the league like a storm cloud.

And honestly, it would be hard to script a better showdown.

The Pirates have spent the 2026 season proving their title run was no accident. Tarpon Springs has looked every bit like a defending champion—explosive offensively, disciplined defensively, and seemingly unshaken in high-pressure moments. Reports throughout the season have emphasized their physical offensive line, dominant run game, and relentless focus on redemption. 

If both teams survive the playoff gauntlet, the championship game could become an instant classic before kickoff even begins. The undefeated champions versus the revenge-driven powerhouse. Legacy versus redemption.

But here’s the reality of playoff football in the EAFL: nothing is guaranteed.

Several hungry contenders are fully capable of wrecking the Bruins-Pirates storyline.

The Georgia Grit have quietly become one of the league’s toughest teams to prepare for. Built around physicality and momentum football, the Grit thrive in ugly games where field position and toughness decide everything. If they can drag playoff opponents into a defensive war, they could absolutely become the postseason’s surprise wrecking ball.
